Since the 1930's, Birch Lane Resort (formerly Camp Larrup) on Horseshoe Lake has been a favorite vacation spot for families and sportsmen alike.

In 2007, long-time Horseshoe Lake cabin owners Ron & Ruth Bouma purchased the resort to preserve the small lake atmosphere they'd come to love through their years on the lake.  Prior to owning this resort, they owned and operated a construction company in Orange City, Iowa.

Ron's sister, Rose, and her husband, Merl, come from their retirement home in Arizona to help out in the summer when the resort is busiest. Merl's second name has become Ron; most guests can't believe that they are brothers-in-law and not true brothers!

In 2012, Joy and Robert Bushaw joined the Birch Lane family after Ron's and Ruth's son and daughter-in-law and sons, Troy and Tanya, Paxton and Kaeden, moved on to other opportunities in Iowa. Joy and Robert relocated from Oklahoma to be closer to their families since they are natives of Minnesota. Their hometown is Oslo. Joy will be the new office manager, and Robert is employed at the Good Samaritan Nursing in Pine River.  Be sure to stop in at the office to learn more about them and their family!

Neither the Bouma family nor the Bushaw's ever expected to be in the resort business, but they have found that they love it because of all the wonderful people they get to know each year. It's these people, our guests, that drive us to keep the resort beautifully maintained and updated, our cabins as clean as possible and to make sure everything is the way we would hope them to be if we were vacationing here. We work hard to make sure everything is in top shape and that we maintain our family friendly atmosphere long-time guests have grown to love.
